    Busy month of May
Last weekend was my youngest daughter's wedding.  Of course, family came in sooner, so there was lots going on from Wednesday on.  The wedding was wonderful, we were very pleased with the reception, and we invited many folks to our home the next day for a brunch.
Tiring, but a good tired.  The newlyweds are doing well, not going away until a later date.  We met them for dinner Friday evening at an Italian restaurant/ pizza place that had surprisingly good food.  Saturday we had tickets for our local theater; we saw "Noises Off", which was very funny, and they did a really good job.  The cast must be exhausted after each performance--it's non-stop action.  Today I went out for brunch for Mother's Day with the newlyweds and his parents.  My husband has flown to New York for a charity golf tournament at Winged Foot , a course he has always wanted to play.  DD#1 got him in because her company always has a foursome at this affair.  Unfortunately, the weather prediction for tomorrow is not good.  I so hope that he'll have a chance to play there; he returns home Tuesday morning.  Speaking of weather, there was tornado activity late this afternoon in the Charleston area.  I'll be checking out the news tonight for the damage report.  Next Sunday is a BookCrossing gathering.  Later this month, DH and I will be volunteering at the Ginn Tribute, Annika Sorenstam's golf tournament in the area.  I enjoy the LPGA tour; those women are so good, and don't get much attention compared to the men.  Most of them are on the small side, but they hit the golf ball almost 300 yards!  Should be fun!  Oh, and we have another wedding to attend in a couple of weeks (but we don't have to pay for this one).

    Adding to the Family
We got a phone call from England yesterday.  My daughter #2 and her guy were over there to see his parents for the holidays, and he had some business to attend to.  Anyway, he was calling to ask my husband for his consent to his asking her to marry him.  (That was a rather awkward sentence, but I guess you can catch my drift.)  My DH said "Of course!  We think the world of you, and we wish you much happiness."  I thought he put it pretty well.  We do like him, and they are a good couple.  We don't have any details yet about dates.  Daughter #4 is getting married in May.  No time to rest!  But happy!

    Got some things accomplished today...
I hate crowds, so shopping at this time of year is not high on my list of fun things to do.  But I got myself going this morning and managed to get my youngest daughter a combination birthday/Christmas gift from her wish list.  I was relieved, because I am prone to wait too long to shop for things and consequently never find just what I want.  But luck was with me; Best Buy had the exact item at a good price, and it was the last one on the shelf.

I've also just finished registering at least a couple of dozen books, mostly children's, to be released at our book giveaway tomorrow morning in downtown Charleston.  I hope a few more of the local BCers show up; last year it was only two of us.  But we had a good time.

I've got some serious reading to do this weekend.  Our book group meets Monday evening, and I'm less than a third of the way through the book, A Year in Provence.  It's not heavy reading, and I'm enjoying it, but there are interruptions (such as book giveaways).  Well, it could be worse, it could be a book I didn't like.

    My first post on LJ
I haven't posted anything before this.  I've always felt that I don't have that much to write about.  I don't go to work anymore, most of my family isn't nearby (especially the two little grandchildren--they'd give me plenty to say!), etc., etc., etc.  But I'll try to put some thoughts about different things into words, anyway.  No one is forced to read it, right?  Maybe some day I'll even learn how to upload a userpic!

I recently read Alexander McCall Smith's The Sunday Philosophy Club.  What a nice book!  I loved the main character, Isabel Dalhousie.  She's the editor of the Review of Applied Ethics, and consequently views everything in terms of ethics and morality.  But in an interesting way.  There is a mystery in the story, and she is involved in its solution, but it isn't a typical whodunit.  I'll definitely have to read more in this series; this is the first.

I'm also currently reading The Zookeeper's Wife, which I am enjoying, but it is not an unputdownable book. World War II books hold a great interest for me.  This one is set in Warsaw, Poland.  What those people went through is almost beyond belief, but it seems mankind will never learn.

I will ask my favorite local BookCrossing buddies if they are interested in either of these books.  I hope to see a few this coming Saturday when we have a BC giveaway in downtown Charleston at Marion Square.  Czukie and I had fun last year giving away books, and it's supposed to be a nice day.
